What to See and Do

We can only give a taste of the many attractions and opportunities available close to Whitbarrow village and within the Lake District National Park.

Whitbarrow Village is situated between Penrith and Keswick and only 10 minutes from Ullswater Lake, 20 mins from Bassenthwaite, 20 mins from Derwent Water and 40 mins from Windermere (all by car).

The local village is Greystoke only a few minutes drive away and well worth a visit it has a beautiful old church, post office and local pub serving food in the evening plus Sunday lunch.

Penrith is a traditional market town with cinema a wide range of shops and places to eat plus14th century castle.

Rheged Centre 4 Giant Movies, the NEW free Discovering Cumbria Exhibition and Cumbria information Centre. Rheged's shops reflect the region, its activities, crafts people and producers. At the heart of Keswick is the Market Place, with shops and hotels. The most important building is The Moot Hall, an ancient foundation which is home to the National Park Information Centre. Keswick has two large public parks with outdoor games facilities, attractive gardens and woodland.

For children and adults alike there is the World of Beatrix Potter (40 mins). and Trotters World of Animals (40 mins). Also well worth a visit are Aira Force waterfall, and Wetherigg pottery where you can make and glaze your own pot .

There are numerous other attractions and activities including quad biking, steamers, sailing, walking, shopping, fine dining, football and rugby, diving, swimming, walking, cycling, fishing, horse riding, golf, wind-surfing, water skiing, mountain biking mountaineering, paragliding.
